Set up printing on this computer

Six steps. About ten minutes, plus a phone call to DFS. After this, every Mark-In, Drop-Off, and Pick-Up ticket you ring up in DFS Cloud will print to your receipt printer automatically.

Use Google Chrome for the POS. Printing straight to the receipt printer only works in Chrome. In Microsoft Edge the ticket will open as a PDF instead, and there is no setting you can change to stop that.

Download the installer

Click the button below. The installer is about 100 MB, so give it a minute on a slow connection.

Download Print Helper for Windows

Chrome will ask what to do with the file:

“What do you want to do with DFS-Print-Helper-Setup…exe?” — click Save (or Keep).

Until you do, the download stays in your Downloads folder as “Unconfirmed ….crdownload” and looks cancelled. That file is the installer, just not released yet — click Save and it becomes the .exe. This happens because the installer is not code-signed.

Run the installer

Double-click the file you just downloaded.

If Windows shows a blue “unrecognized publisher” warning:

Click More info
Click Run anyway

This is normal for in-house apps. You can call DFS support if you’d like us to confirm.

The installer will set up the helper to start automatically when this computer turns on. You’ll see a small green dot in the system tray (bottom-right corner of the screen) when it’s running.

Pick your receipt printer

The first time the helper runs, it will pop up a window asking which printer to use. Choose your receipt printer from the list and click Save.

Don’t see your printer? Make sure it’s plugged in and turned on, then click theRefreshbutton in the helper window.

Click the button below to check that the helper is running on this computer. You can also send a test page to your printer.

If paper comes out blank

Open the DFS Print Helper window and clickDiagnose printing. It prints four short slips marked A, B, C and D, each one asking your printer for the page a different way. D will open the normal Windows print box — that one is meant to.

Then tell us which letters actually came out of the printer. That single answer identifies the setting your printer needs. Blank slips are useful too — “only B printed” is exactly what we need to hear.
